Holly M. Kaplan

Holly M. Kaplan is a Chinese-American filmmaker born and raised in New York City. Driven by ties to her mixed Cantonese heritage, her work explores narratives focused on diversity, the Asian diaspora, and femme perspectives. She has been featured on the Shiny Awards Creator List and was selected for NALIP/Netflix’s “Narrative Short Incubator for Women of Color” to write, direct, and produce “Sunflower Girl.” The film screened at over 50 festivals, including Reel Sisters of The Diaspora, and received a nomination at the Woodstock Film Festival. She studied Film & Media Arts at American University and mentors teen filmmakers with Reel Works. Holly was a 2025 BendFilm: Basecamp Fellow and has also served on the jury for PANO’s Shorts Showcase and Psarokokalo International Film Festival.
