On Wed., Oct 8, 2025 at 6:00 pm, our Reel Sisters Family and Community will remember the far reaching legacy of author/filmmaker Maitefa Anagza for supporting the work of countless cultural institutions including Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series. Family and friends are invited to join us in a loving remembrance to our Real Sister Maitefa.
Our celebration will include a special screening of In Our Heads About Her Hair produced by Anu Prestonia, Maitefa Angaza, Paulette Maat Kesa Tabb, and directed by Hemamset Angaza.
Following the screening Anu, Maat Kesa and Hemamset will share Maitefa’s contributions to In Our Heads and their collective vision on creating a timeless film about our hair traditions. Nazalima Stephanie Durham will moderate the panel.
Event is free and open to the public. Donations are welcomed.

BIOS
Anu Prestonia, renowned natural haircare expert, perfumer, and founder of New York’s iconic Khamit Kinks salon, set the standard in natural and braided hairstyles for over 40 years. Her innovative work has been featured in The New York Times, Essence, The View, and Queer Eye, with celebrity clients including Oprah Winfrey, Stevie Wonder, Angela Bassett, Lenny Kravitz, and Queen Latifah.
Anu developed one of the first all-natural haircare lines and delighted in the discovery and craftsmanship of formulating hair and skin products. Over time, her passion evolved toward the artistry of blending perfume-grade oils and resins into botanically based fragrances. Today, her focus is devoted exclusively to the magic and allure of natural perfumes, with Anu Essentials offering scents inspired by her global travels.
A lifelong advocate of holistic living, Anu draws on her background in yoga, Chinese medicine, and Reiki to infuse her work with balance and care. While Khamit Kinks closed in 2019, she continues to inspire through the Anu Essentials Newsletter, sharing product updates, lifestyle, wisdom, and cultural insights.
