From Kimberly Rivers Roberts, award-winning filmmaker & central figure in the 2008 Oscar-nominated documentary TROUBLE THE WATER, comes another journey into the heart of modern New Orleans. FEAR NO GUMBO highlights the passion New Orleans’ residents have for their culture and history, and why they are still fighting for their community over a decade after being ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. These are the stories of working-class citizens keeping the culture alive.
Many outsiders have tried to tell the story of New Orleans, often seeming to prefer that the hardest parts of the city’s history, including the federal response to the hurricane, remain untold. Despite these opportunists, the people of New Orleans keep growing their families, mourning their dead, and celebrating their culture as only New Orleans can. The film explores that rich culture: the music and dance and myriad charms of the city—while also examining the circumstances that have jeopardized these beloved ways of living & necessitated the fight for their survival.
