Hosted by Henry Louis Gates\, Jr the series traces the origins of the Black church and explores the massive role it has played in history. Featuring interviews with Oprah Winfrey\, John Legend\, noted faith leaders and more\, the program is a reverent look at how the church has for generations used its power to uplift the spirit and bring about social change. The project also doesn’t shy away from the serious critiques many believe need to be addressed if the church is to remain relevant to a younger generation.
